We would like to inform you that on May 1st 2008 South Alabama Gas District began to operate the Town of Butler’s natural gas system. The system was bought from the Utilities Board of the Town of Butler. It had reported on the last annual DOT report 531 service lines. They averaged around 300 billings per month. There will be no additional employees due to the acquisition. We will roll all operations into our existing Butler branch. This will be a great addition to our Butler branch. We look forward to implementing our marketing program for the citizens of the Town of Butler.

Gas system transfer completed: BUTLER – Paul Gay, representing the Utilities Board of the Town of Butler, and Mayor Ben W. Smith, representing the Town Council, are shown receiving a check last week in the amount of $335,000 from Mark Burgess to complete the sale of the town’s natural gas system to South Alabama Gas. SAG has committed to install new distribution lines within the service area, as well as run safety checks for all residents who use natural gas. In addition to the $335,000, the town will receive an annual franchise fee for 30 years of three percent of the amount of sale of gas inside the town limits, and one and one-half percent for gas sold outside the corporate limits but still inside the police jurisdiction. SAG formally took over operation of the system on May 1st. Customers who convert to natural gas will be eligible to receive a brand-new, free water heater and SAG will pipe the line from the meter to the customer’s home, something that the town is prohibited by state law from doing. The company will maintain an office at 402 East Smith Street (behind the former CCHS location) where persons can go for their gas appliance needs and to pay bills or ask questions about service
